Yup, I had similar problems when I used to have a printer connected to my
Toaster machine and would forget to turn it off.  I've also noticed that
the "floppy" drives get accessed when starting up the Toaster, even if
there isn't a disk inserted....just some of the funkiness of the Video
Toaster!  =)
